Description

This museum-grade antique Persian Bakhtiari soumak kilim features a geometric tribal composition woven in two separate narrow panels later joined together by hand.

The palette combines deep oxblood red tonalities with softened ivory highlights layered throughout the geometric composition.

The weaving technique is soumak, creating highly detailed textured surface structure with strong handmade tribal character.

The kilim is entirely wool woven and preserves the dense tactile quality associated with high-quality Bakhtiari nomadic weaving traditions.

The two-panel construction reflects the practical realities of nomadic life, where weaving narrower portable panels made transportation easier for tribal communities before the separate sections were stitched together.

The two woven panels are not perfectly identical in dimension or proportion, preserving the subtle handmade irregularity that reflects the artistic identity of tribal handwoven textiles.

This asymmetry reinforces the authenticity of the piece and preserves the visible evidence of human weaving rather than mechanical repetition.

All motifs and structural elements remain geometric and direct, reflecting the visual language characteristic of Persian nomadic flatwoven textiles.

The overall atmosphere feels raw, balanced, and highly collectible while preserving the strong tribal symmetry associated with Bakhtiari geometric weaving traditions.

These kilims were woven without formal cartoons or drawn plans, and the weaver instead reconstructed remembered tribal motifs and inherited visual patterns directly from memory during the weaving process.

The interaction between the oxblood-red palette, ivory highlights, geometric tribal motifs, and detailed soumak texture creates strong museum-quality nomadic textile presence.

This piece stands out for its rare two-panel construction, all-wool soumak structure, geometric tribal composition, and highly collectible handmade character.
