Nahavand Rugs | Handwoven Village Rugs from Iran with Geometric Designs and Vibrant Colors

Nahavand rugs, classified among the reputable village rugs of the Hamadan region, are known for their bold geometric patterns, high-quality wool, and vibrant colors—especially deep red and navy blue.

Most Nahavand rugs are woven in rectangular sizes, rarely exceeding 6 square meters. The finest examples are known as Oshvand rugs, often featuring traditional Gol-e-Khar or Tarikhi designs. In recent years, the Cypress Tree pattern has also been added to their repertoire.

While Nahavand kilims may have been produced, no kilim from this region is recognized as a distinct category in the global market.

The geometric floral designs in Nahavand weaving are easily recognizable to anyone familiar with Persian carpets. The majority of Nahavand’s population is Lor, with a smaller presence of Lak people.
