The Aesthetics of Chaos: Afghan War Rugs in Paris
On December 14 and 15, 2024, The Aesthetics of Chaos exhibition will bring a powerful narrative to Paris, showcasing a unique collection of 20 Afghan war rugs. Hosted at 51 Rue de Turenne, this event offers visitors an opportunity to explore the intersection of art, history, and conflict through intricately woven textiles.
Each rug in this curated collection embodies the lived experiences of war, integrating traditional motifs with contemporary symbols of upheaval. These pieces serve as both artistic expressions and historical documents, reflecting the resilience and creativity of Afghan weavers amid turmoil.
Curated by Saman Khodayarifard, the exhibition continues the journey of these war rugs following their successful presentation at Trinity College Dublin earlier this year. Through this collection, The Aesthetics of Chaos aims to challenge conventional perceptions of beauty and chaos, encouraging conversations around art’s ability to document and transform human experiences.
