Description

This Lori piece, known as a “Madan,” is an antique textile originally used as a money pillow.
Nomadic groups would place money inside through a side opening and keep it under their head while resting, combining function with daily life.
The central section features a long and soft pile, giving the piece a distinct tactile quality. The lighter areas are made from wool yarn, creating contrast within the surface.
At both ends, wool tassels extend outward, while between the tassels and the main pile area, suzani-woven kilim bands add structure and detail.
The edges are reinforced with goat hair, contributing to the durability of the piece.
The overall character is strongly tribal, with clear functional origins and a direct approach to design.
