Description

This vintage Persian Koliai rug from the Sonqor region features a geometric medallion-and-corner composition arranged through an unusually varied tribal color palette.

The field is woven in rich madder-red tones layered with inky navy and dark plum contrasts across the geometric structure.

Throughout the rug, all motifs remain abstract and geometric, preserving the direct handmade visual language associated with Kurdish village weaving traditions.

The composition follows the design locally known as the Hosseinabad pattern within the Sonqor-Koliai weaving tradition.

Compared to more common examples, the palette here feels less conventional, with softened blush-pink tonal atmosphere appearing across sections of the field and ornamentation.

Olive-green accents appear inside parts of the border structure and create additional tonal variation within the darker palette.

The geometric medallion layout remains highly structured while preserving the freer irregularity characteristic of village-woven tribal carpets.

The rug has a longer pile height that gives the surface additional tactile softness and visual depth.

The interaction between the madder-red ground, dark navy-plum contrasts, blush tonal transitions, and olive accents creates warm rustic atmosphere with layered tribal character.

Despite the density of the geometric ornamentation, the palette remains balanced because of the softened tonal movement and visible abrash variation throughout the field.

This piece stands out for its unusual Koliai palette, geometric Hosseinabad structure, and rich long-pile tribal texture.
