Description

This antique Persian Nahavand rug from the Hamedan weaving region features the traditional Oshvand medallion-and-corner composition, one of the most recognized village vase designs associated with Nahavand weaving traditions.

The rug is woven through an unusually refined and atmospheric palette combining dusty salmon pink, navy blue, warm brick red, ivory, camel beige, muted sky blue, and dusty peach tonal accents.

The field is executed in abrash black tonalities while the borders carry deep abrash navy coloration, creating strong high-contrast architectural framing throughout the composition.

Across the surface, dense geometric floral and vegetal motifs fill the field in rhythmic repetition.

All motifs are geometric interpretations of flowers, leaves, and plant forms woven through the freer handmade visual language characteristic of village weaving traditions.

Despite its tribal structure, the rug carries ceremonial atmosphere that feels almost palace-like because of its dense ornamentation, saturated tonal layering, and unusually sophisticated color relationships.

The palette differs noticeably from more common Nahavand examples and gives the rug a highly individual visual identity.

Visible abrash movement softens transitions within both the darker and lighter tonal areas and reinforces the handmade dyeing structure of the rug.

The rug has a medium pile height that preserves tactile density while maintaining clarity within the geometric floral detailing.

The interaction between the abrash black field, navy borders, dusty salmon tonalities, and layered geometric ornamentation creates dramatic but balanced village atmosphere with strong collectible presence.

This piece stands out for its rare Oshvand composition, ceremonial tonal atmosphere, and highly collectible Nahavand village palette.
