Description

This handwoven Meshkin kilim is a semi-antique tribal flatweave featuring an uncommon mythological composition inspired by the ancient archaeological site of Shahr-e Yeri near Arjagh village in northwest Iran.
The central field contains 15 full idol figures and two partial figures, referencing the ancient stone statues discovered at the site, believed to date back nearly 8,000 years.
Most of the figures are depicted without mouths, closely reflecting the appearance of the original sculptures, with the exception of a single female figure.
The field surrounding the figures is densely filled with small geometric motifs, creating a highly ornamented and textural tribal surface.
The border incorporates ram horn motifs, reinforcing the symbolic and regional character of the composition.
The palette is centered on dark brown and walnut tones over a black ground, softened by ivory and beige accents that define parts of the figures and geometric details.
The structure combines wool and cotton in the warp, while the surface remains visually dense and heavily patterned.
The overall atmosphere is dark, layered, and strongly narrative, balancing archaeological inspiration with tribal weaving traditions.
This kilim stands out for its rare iconography, collectible nature, and unusually symbolic design language.
