Description

This Persian Bakhtiar saltbag is a Semi-Antique tribal textile woven around 1955, featuring a dense geometric composition structured around an abstract central medallion.
The palette combines saturated madder red and crimson tones layered against deep aubergine and charcoal black sections that create strong atmospheric depth across the surface.
The central medallion contains a swastika motif, an ancient symbol that appeared widely in early Iranian and broader Eurasian visual traditions long before its later political appropriation in the twentieth century.
Within tribal weaving traditions, such motifs often functioned as geometric symbolic forms integrated naturally into broader decorative structures.
The motifs throughout the textile remain abstract and highly geometric, reinforcing the concentrated tribal rhythm of the composition.
The textile combines flatwoven and soumak-woven sections, creating subtle variation in texture while preserving the compact handmade structure of the object.
The contrast between the saturated reds and darker framing tones gives the composition strong visual density and layered nomadic atmosphere.
Originally woven as a utilitarian nomadic salt container, the object also functions today as a collectible tribal artifact through its symbolic motifs and richly aged coloration.
Despite its relatively small scale, the textile carries strong visual presence through its concentrated geometry and symbolic medallion structure.
This piece stands out for its ancient symbolic motif, saturated tribal palette, and highly collectible handmade character.
