Description

This Baluch sofreh is a tribal textile featuring a bold geometric composition structured through flatwoven and soumak-woven sections.
The palette is centered on burnt orange tones contrasted by ivory white accents that sharply define the geometric forms across the surface.
The composition is organized around a strong central geometric field surrounded by dense symbolic borders, creating a layered and architectural tribal structure.
The balance between the open center and concentrated border ornamentation gives the textile a controlled spatial rhythm rarely found in more spontaneous tribal compositions.
The motifs remain highly geometric and abstract, relying on contrast and repetition rather than naturalistic imagery.
In sections of the borders, colored threads are woven in a way that creates raised texture resembling low pile, introducing additional tactile variation to the otherwise flatwoven structure.
The interaction between flatter woven areas and textured border sections adds visual depth while preserving the graphic clarity of the composition.
Like traditional tribal sofrehs, the textile was woven for domestic nomadic use, typically associated with food preparation and serving.
This piece stands out for its architectural composition, bold contrast, and textured symbolic borders.
