DESCRIPTION

This antique Persian Shahsavan kilim is an approximately 150-year-old handwoven textile featuring a bold horizontal geometric composition arranged through deep tribal coloration and highly refined weaving structure.

The kilim is woven entirely from wool, including naturally colored wool warps, reinforcing the unified organic material character of the textile.

Constructed in two separate flatwoven panels stitched together at the center, the weaving follows a traditional Shahsavan weaving structure associated with important northwest Iranian tribal weaving traditions.

The field is organized through horizontal bands filled with dense abstract geometric motifs arranged in rhythmic tribal sequences.

Darker navy bands appear across the upper and lower sections of the composition, creating visual weight and contrast against the dominant warm field.

The palette is centered on deep madder red and oxblood tones enriched by ivory highlights that sharpen the geometric structures throughout the textile.

All motifs remain abstract and geometric, reflecting the symbolic visual language associated with Shahsavan weaving traditions.

Both ends of the kilim preserve braided finishing details, reinforcing the exceptional level of craftsmanship and structural refinement.

The weaving quality is notably high, visible in the precision of the geometric organization, balance of the horizontal composition, and preservation of the textile.

Despite its age, the kilim remains remarkably intact and structurally complete.

The interaction between the deep red field, ivory highlights, and navy horizontal divisions creates bold tribal atmosphere and strong sculptural visual presence.

This piece stands out for its museum-grade preservation, all-wool construction, and powerful geometric Shahsavan composition.
