Description

This Persian Senneh kilim is a highly expressive figurative tribal textile structured through vivid madder red and ivory contrasts combined with dense symbolic imagery.

The composition follows a medallion-and-corner format filled with abstract figurative motifs arranged in rhythmic narrative sequence across the field.

Compared to softer and more faded examples woven from the same design tradition, this version retains stronger saturation and appears visually newer and more vibrant.

A total of 44 figurative motifs appear within the main field while 8 additional motifs occupy the corner sections.

Throughout the composition, highly abstract animal motifs including butterflies, camels, rabbits, eagles, and swans appear woven into the tribal structure.

At the upper and lower sections of the kilim, four mounted horsemen carrying swords ride across the composition, creating strong directional movement and narrative energy.

These rider motifs transform the kilim into a woven storytelling object rather than purely decorative tribal textile.

Above the central medallion appears the woven date “1377” in the Hijri Shamsi calendar, corresponding to 1998 CE.

Decorated fringes remain attached along the upper edge of the kilim and reinforce its handmade tribal identity.

The interaction between the saturated madder red field, ivory highlights, figurative imagery, and dense symbolic composition creates unusually theatrical tribal atmosphere and strong visual intensity.

This piece stands out for its vivid madder palette, horseman motifs, and exceptionally dense figurative tribal composition.
