Description

This semi-antique Persian Senneh kilim from Sanandaj features a highly expressive tribal composition structured through salt blue and raspberry pink tonal contrasts and abstract floral imagery.

The field is organized around an abstracted interpretation of the Gol-e Mirza Ali motif, a floral design belonging to the broader tradition of gol farang imagery within Persian weaving.

Unlike many tribal geometric motifs, gol farang patterns in Persian textiles often retain a more naturalistic and painterly character.

In this kilim, the motif appears softened and partially abstracted, creating an atmosphere that feels closer to expressionist painting than rigid geometric weaving.

The composition produces what may be described as a surreal folk-art atmosphere, where color relationships and softened forms dominate over strict ornamental symmetry.

The interaction between the salt blue field tones and raspberry pink contrasts creates strong visual tension and unusually modern chromatic energy.

Visible abrash variation appears throughout sections of the kilim, reinforcing the handmade material character and introducing tonal movement across the surface.

A single border frames the composition and preserves visual restraint around the more expressive central field.

The weaving exists in a space between tribal textile tradition and painterly abstraction, where repeated woven motifs begin to resemble expressive brush-like movement rather than strictly decorative pattern.

The contrast between the softened floral imagery and the structured woven grid creates layered visual depth and highly individual atmosphere.

This piece stands out for its surreal folk-art presence, expressive Gol-e Mirza Ali motifs, and painterly color relationships.
