Description

This vintage Persian Senneh kilim is an unusually narrative tribal textile structured through abstract figurative imagery, symbolic animal motifs, and softened aged coloration.

The palette combines camel gold tones with beige and muted olive green accents that give the kilim a faded and visually aged atmosphere.

Compared to brighter examples woven from the same design tradition, this version carries calmer tonal relationships and stronger vintage character.

The composition follows a medallion-and-corner structure filled with dense figurative imagery arranged throughout the field.

A total of 44 figurative motifs appear across the main field and 8 additional motifs are positioned within the corner sections.

Animal motifs including butterflies, camels, rabbits, eagles, and swans appear throughout the kilim in highly abstract tribal interpretation.

At both the upper and lower sections of the composition, four mounted horsemen carrying swords are depicted riding their animals.

These rider motifs create strong narrative movement and transform the kilim into a symbolic storytelling textile rather than purely ornamental weaving.

Above the central medallion appears the woven date “1377” in the Hijri Shamsi calendar, corresponding to 1998 CE.

Decorated fringes remain attached along the lower edge of the kilim and reinforce its handmade tribal character.

Visible abrash variation appears throughout sections of the textile, introducing tonal movement and emphasizing the organic handmade structure of the weaving.

This piece stands out for its faded atmospheric palette, dense figurative imagery, and rare horseman motif composition.
