Description

This Persian Shahsavan kilim is a handmade tribal textile featuring deep raspberry-magenta abrash coloration structured through dense repeating geometric motifs across the entire surface.

The composition is generated through the continuous repetition of triangular forms that first create the Sormeh-dan motif and eventually build the larger geometric structure of the kilim.

The motifs remain highly abstract and rhythmic, reflecting the symbolic visual language characteristic of Shahsavan weaving traditions from Northwest Iran.

Ivory accents appear throughout sections of the composition and sharpen the softened magenta field while preserving balanced tribal contrast.

Visible abrash variation creates tonal movement across the textile and reinforces the handmade dyeing character of the weaving.

The repeated geometry produces strong rhythmic visual movement while maintaining architectural compositional balance.

Along the lower section of the kilim, the strict repetition of the primary design is interrupted and replaced with different motifs and alternative geometric structures.

This deviation introduces an unusually spontaneous handmade quality into the composition and reveals the improvisational nature of tribal weaving.

Within one border section, a small knotted motif typically associated with piled rugs has been woven directly into the flatwoven structure of the kilim. This unexpected detail creates a subtle dialogue between piled carpet traditions and flatwoven tribal textile techniques.

The kilim retains braided ends and preserved selvage, reinforcing both structural durability and authentic handmade tribal identity.

The interaction between the deep magenta abrash field, ivory accents, geometric repetition, and irregular compositional variations creates layered tribal atmosphere with strong tactile rhythm.

This piece stands out for its Sormeh-dan geometric structure, raspberry-magenta abrash palette, and unusual handmade compositional variations.
