Description

This authentic antique Persian Sultanabad Moshtaq rug is an exceptionally rare oversize weaving from the Arak region, featuring a refined medallion-and-corner composition arranged across a plain crimson field.

The palette is centered on rich crimson red tones softened by ivory-highlighted borders and enriched with dusty rose and muted olive green accents.

The specific tonal relationships and subtle color gradations are characteristic of Moshtaq rugs from the Sultanabad weaving tradition, where local climatic conditions historically influenced dye behavior and wool coloration in ways recognizable to experienced specialists.

The border system is composed of continuous vase motifs containing Shah Abbasi floral elements arranged in rhythmic sequence around the field.

The central composition remains relatively restrained, allowing the surrounding border structure and refined coloration to dominate the visual atmosphere of the rug.

The wool is notably soft to the touch and the rug retains a medium pile that preserves both clarity of design and tactile depth.

The interaction between the open crimson field, floral vase borders, and softened secondary accents creates elegant visual balance while preserving the strong decorative identity associated with antique Sultanabad weaving traditions.

Oversize examples of Moshtaq rugs in this level of preservation and with this specific composition are extremely uncommon.

The rug combines collectible rarity with strong decorative presence and refined material quality.

This piece stands out for its rare oversize format, distinctive Moshtaq coloration, and elegant vase-border composition.
