Description

This vintage Persian Lori runner rug features the historical pictorial composition known as Houshang Shah, one of the long-standing narrative carpet themes traditionally woven in Iran by Lori, Arab, and Baluch tribal weaving groups.

The composition depicts Houshang Shah through the highly recognizable visual structure historically associated with this design tradition.

The figure is consistently shown alongside horses and tall attendants rendered through elongated tribal proportions and stylized folkloric drawing.

The rug is woven on a warm ivory field with deep madder-red motifs layered throughout the narrative composition.

Visible abrash variation softens tonal transitions within the red areas and reinforces the handmade dyeing atmosphere of the rug.

Along the borders appears an abstract floral motif executed in simplified tribal geometric form that frames the pictorial field without overpowering it.

The rug is woven entirely from wool and preserves the tactile density and softness associated with nomadic tribal weaving traditions.

Its longer pile height strengthens the sculptural texture of the surface and gives additional depth to the pictorial imagery.

The composition remains highly narrative while still preserving the direct geometric abstraction characteristic of tribal weaving rather than naturalistic pictorial realism.

The interaction between the warm ivory ground, deep madder-red imagery, abrash movement, elongated figures, and long-pile wool structure creates strong folkloric atmosphere with powerful tribal presence.

This piece stands out for its historical Houshang Shah imagery, fully wool tribal structure, and rare pictorial Lori nomadic character.
