Description

This vintage Persian Koliai rug from Kermanshah is a highly graphic tribal weaving featuring bold chain-linked medallions, abstract animal imagery, and strong high-contrast nomadic composition.

The design follows a medallion-and-corner layout known locally as Qab-e-Sini, inspired by the geometry of traditional tray forms.

The field is structured around linked medallions arranged symmetrically across a dark navy ground approaching black in certain sections.

Despite the symmetry of the composition, the weaving retains raw village energy and visible handmade irregularities that preserve its tribal authenticity.

Throughout the field appear highly abstract but identifiable animal motifs including ducks and goats woven into the geometric structure.

Inside the medallions, ancient swastika-like motifs known regionally as sebastik are integrated into the composition as traditional pre-modern geometric symbols.

The outer border carries deep emerald-green coloration that frames the darker field and intensifies the visual contrast throughout the rug.

Within the border system, bird motifs appear woven among stylized floral elements, introducing symbolic movement into the otherwise angular composition.

Ivory and pink highlights animate sections of the darker structure and create concentrated visual tension against the deep navy-black ground.

Visible abrash variation appears throughout parts of the field and reinforces the handmade dyeing character of the rug.

The medium pile preserves both tactile softness and sharp geometric clarity within the composition.

The interaction between the dark field, emerald borders, angular medallions, and minimal animal motifs creates bold tribal atmosphere with unusually masculine visual presence.

This piece stands out for its symbolic animal imagery, emerald-framed medallion structure, and raw high-contrast Koliai geometry.
