Description

This Zanjan chanteh bag is a tribal textile woven around 1945 in northwest Iran, featuring a compact geometric composition enriched by deeply saturated nomadic coloration.
The palette is centered on madder red tones framed through dark charcoal borders that strengthen the structure and directional rhythm of the composition.
The darker framing elements create visual containment around the field while increasing contrast against the warmer central palette.
The geometric motifs remain abstract and highly stylized, reflecting the direct symbolic visual language associated with many tribal weaving traditions from the Zanjan region.
The coloration feels richly layered, with subtle tonal movement and shifting relationships between the warmer reds and darker framing structures.
The textile combines flatwoven and soumak-woven sections, creating tactile variation and reinforcing the visibly handmade nomadic construction of the object.
Despite its compact scale, the density of the geometric motifs and saturated palette produce strong visual presence and concentrated tribal atmosphere.
Originally woven as a personal nomadic storage textile, the chanteh also functions today as a collectible woven artifact through its preserved structure and expressive tribal geometry.
This piece stands out for its saturated madder palette, charcoal framing borders, and richly layered nomadic coloration.
